Clerkenwell Design Week

Clerkenwell Design Week
21st - 23rd May 2013

Clerkenwell Design Week was so much fun!

 So many things to do!

50 High end showrooms partnered with Clerkenwell Design week opening their doors to host a series of seminars, workshops and parties!

The latest products for architects and designers were showcased at the extremely funky exhibition venues -
Farmiloe Building,
House of Detention,
Order of St John
Pavilions

I started Clerkenwell design week on the Tuesday night by attending the 100% Design presents 'Waterworlds' in the Farmiloe building.
A discussion and talks about projects and ideas involving construction and habitation on water.

Chaired by Tom Dyckhoff with guests -
Professor Alex de Rijke, Director, dRMM and Dean of Architecture, RCA.
Adam Hiles, Architect, Duggan Morris Architects.
Sarah Mineko Ichioka, Director, The Architecture Foundation

 Farmiloe Building

This was my first visit to the Farmiloe building and its just bursting with character, I felt like I had stepped back into the Victorian era!
The building was just as interesting to explore as the products it was exhibiting and made a fabulous backdrop, modern design set against one of the finest examples of Victorian architecture. Apologies as my photos don't show how intriguing this building really is.

 Lighting

The most popular trend in lighting design was lamps that looked like they were cut/crafted out of paper.

I took this photo as cardboard tubes were used at my uni exhibition, interesting to see them being used elsewhere

 House of Detention

The House of Detention is a Victorian Prison, this was also an awesome backdrop for a design exhibition, it gave that extra edge to the quirky designs

Order of St.John

This exhibition was held in the Priory Church and its crypt below.
The crypt with its gorgeous vaulted ceilings, stained glass and tombs was a surreal backdrop for luxury furniture.
